Chapel Bricks Holiday Cottage

A charming, dog-friendly holiday cottage in Withernwick, East Yorkshire. Built with historic chapel bricks, offering coastal tranquility.

About Us

Welcome to Chapel Bricks, our lovingly restored sanctuary in the quiet village of Withernwick.

Owned by Ray and Tracey, this cottage is a true passion project. As a nurse, I understand the importance of finding a peaceful space to truly switch off and recharge; that’s exactly the feeling we fell in love with when we found this building.

Our retreat is built from the original Chapel Bricks, and we’ve taken great care to honour the building's history. Throughout the cottage, you will find pieces of iconic Hornsea Pottery and the building's original wooden hymn board, preserved from the old chapel. These touches give the space a unique character and a sense of soul that you won’t find anywhere else.

Located just a short distance from the coastal charm of Hornsea, we are perfectly positioned for those who love the best of both worlds: the quiet, rolling walks of the countryside and the refreshing breeze of the East Coast beaches.

We are proudly dog-friendly, because we believe a getaway isn’t complete without your four-legged companions. Whether you’re here for long coastal hauls, a quiet village stroll, or simply to curl up in a home built with history, Ray and I look forward to welcoming you to the Archer family retreat.

How To Find Us

Location:

Chapel Bricks is perfectly positioned to enjoy the best of the East Yorkshire countryside. Withernwick is a quiet, picturesque village about 10 minutes inland from the coastal town of Hornsea. Chapel Bricks itself is on the high street and is a lovely spot for a staycation if you want to be near the dog-friendly beaches at Mappleton, or the sights of Beverley and Hull.

Parking and Access:

There is no designated parking for the cottage as of yet, but free on-street parking is typically available directly outside or along the road. Please ensure you do not block neighbouring driveways.

Side Path and Garden

The side path provides pedestrian access to the back garden. Please note that this path is for access on foot only; vehicles are strictly prohibited from driving or parking down this path. Guests are welcome to enjoy the small, securely fenced back garden. Please respect the boundary lines, as the land immediately adjacent to the fence belongs to our neighbours and is not part of the rental property.

Shops

• Whitedale Farm Shop (Whitedale)

Located just a few minutes' drive away, this is the perfect spot for guests looking for high-quality, local Yorkshire produce. It’s ideal for picking up fresh meats, seasonal vegetables, and locally made treats for a "big breakfast" or a cozy dinner in the Chapel. It’s a great way to support local farmers and get a true taste of the area.

• McColl’s & The Village Store (Aldbrough)

Just over 3 miles away in the neighbouring village of Aldbrough (locally often called "Albra"), you will find two convenient shops on Church Street. These are excellent for everyday essentials like milk, bread, newspapers, and household basics. There is also a Post Office and an ATM located here if needed.

• Tesco Superstore (Hornsea)

For a full weekly shop, the large Tesco in Hornsea (approx. 10–15 minutes away) is the most comprehensive option. It features a pharmacy, a petrol station, and a wide range of groceries and clothing. It is open until 11:00 PM most nights (excluding Sundays), making it very convenient for guests arriving late.

• Hornsea Town Centre

Beyond the big supermarket, Hornsea offers a lovely selection of independent butchers, bakers, and specialty shops along the high street. It’s well worth a visit for guests who want to wander the promenade and pick up some fresh local fish or traditional seaside souvenirs.

House Rules

Check-in & Out: Check in is from 3pm and check-out is by 10am. This ensures we have plenty of time to get the cottage ‘Nurse clean’ and perfect for your arrival.

Honesty & Breakages: We understand that accidents happen! If something gets broken during your stay, please kindly let us know before you leave. Most things are easily replaced, but knowing in advance allows me to bring a replacement when I come to clean, ensuring the cottage is perfect for the next guest.

Guest Occupancy: While you are more than welcome to have friends over for a cuppa or dinner during the day, please note that only the guests listed on the original booking are permitted to stay overnight.

Peace & Quiet: Withernwick is a wonderfully peaceful village. We kindly ask that you keep noise to a minimum between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM so our neighbours can enjoy the quiet, too.

Smoke-Free Sanctuary: To protect our historic woodwork and keep the Chapel Bricks smelling fresh, Archer’s Retreat is strictly a smoke-free and vape-free zone.

Securing the Retreat: Please ensure all doors and windows are securely closed whenever you head out to enjoy the East Coast or a local walk.
